Meet the Lawrence Park Heritage Committee

Some of our members include:

Bruce Grantier

Bruce Grantier retired in 2008 after 16 years at Scotiabank, where he was, for the past nine, Managing Director, Pension Assets. Previously he was Chief Strategist and Head of Fixed-Income for Scotia Investment Management Ltd. He earned his BASc (Industrial Engineering) at the University of Toronto and MBA (Dean’s List) at York University. He is a CFA and CAIA charter holder and is a certified director of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).

Memberships include: Brandes Institute Advisory Board, Toronto CFA Society Board of Directors and Senior Advisor of our Society’s Portfolio Management Committee, Benefits and Pension Monitor Advisory Board, Catholic Cemeteries and Funeral Services Board, Archdiocese of Toronto Investment Advisory Committee, Granite Club Finance (Financ-Pensions) Committee Member, IPSol Capital Management Chair of Board, and Rotman School of Management Value Investing Course Judge.

He has written articles and reviews for industry publications including the Journal of Investment Management, the Financial Analysts Journal, the Canadian Investment Review, and Benefits and Pension Monitor and publishes investment literature research summaries online through Investor Literature.

Geoff Kettel

Geoff Kettel is a community connector, advocate and consultant who works tirelessly to “make places better” through an active involvement  in land use planning, heritage preservation, transportation, and community development, mainly in Leaside, and North Toronto.

Kettel is currently Co-President of the Leaside Property Owners’ Association, Co-Chair of the Federation of North Toronto Residents‘  Association (FoNTRA), Chair of North York Community Preservation Panel (NYCPP) and the founder and co-chair of Neighbours’ Night Out in Thorncliffe Park. He is a director of Flemingdon Community Legal Services, the Federation of Urban Neighbourhoods (FUN) and the Don Valley Citizenship Committee.  He is co-chair of Cycle 26 (the local branch of Cycle Toronto), and a member of the Lawrence Park Heritage Committee. He also writes a monthly column on heritage and planning issues for Leaside Life newspaper.

He retired in 2008 from a 33 year career in the Ontario public service serving in various ministries including Natural Resources, Health and Long-Term Care, and Management Board Secretariat. Prior to that he was a Land Use Planner with Kilborn Engineering.  Geoff graduated with B.Sc. and Masters degrees in Geography from the University of Wales, and the University of Western Ontario, respectively, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School, York University.

Lynda Moon

Lynda Moon, co-author of Historical Walking Tour of Lawrence Park,worked as a librarian with the Toronto Public Library from 1971 until her retirement in 2008. She was on the staff of Locke Library then at Northern District Branch where for many years she was the History Specialist.

A resident of North Toronto, she was a founding member of the North Toronto Historical Society in 1975 and now is its President. Called a “local hero” by the North Toronto Post, she was also awarded a Certificate of Commendation in 1991 by the Toronto Historical Board for her “dedication to promotion of Toronto history” . She coordinates the monthly local history evenings at Northern District Library which are cosponsored with the North Toronto Historical Society . She also leads walking tours in the North Toronto area and continues to take an active interest in historical research and heritage preservation.

Jane Somerville

Jane Somerville is a retired chidren’s book publisher and toy inventor. She also created a small imprint of original Canadian novels; one which won the Governor General’s Award and the other, the Giller, under her “watch.”  Her current “watch” is the Lawrence Park Heritage Committee. As former Chair and one of the founders, she has worked to create consensus in Lawrence Park West so we may cordially move to the Designation of a Heritage Conservation District in an area West of Mt Pleasant to Yonge and from Lawrence south to the ravine.
